Just a short drive from Athens and the cruise port of Piraeus, Lake Vouliagmeni is a hidden gem that offers a peaceful escape. After disembarking from a cruise, we had a spare day to fill, and that's when we discovered this gem! It was an ideal choice!

Referred to as the "Lake of the Sun," it is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and therapeutic properties. Combined with the nearby town of Vouliagmeni, it makes for an ideal destination for both relaxation and exploration.

What is Lake Vouliagmeni?

Scenic view of a green lake

Lake Vouliagmeni was formed by the collapse of an underground cave, the lake is renowned for its warm, mineral-rich waters. Its depth and the natural springs feeding into it ensure a consistently pleasant temperature, making it a popular spot for year-round swimming. The lake is also known for its high mineral content, which many believe has therapeutic benefits. Visitors often indulge in a dip, enjoying the sensation of floating effortlessly in the lake's buoyant waters.

Why can you do at Lake Vouliagmeni?

Cabana view of Lake Vouliagmeni

We rented a Cabana online before arriving.

You can also email them here too: reservations@lakevouliagmeni.gr

We chose the Cabana Beds, which were private, quiet and from our seats we could order food and drinks.

They also offer spa services!

Water Temperatures

The refreshing water felt perfect (slightly chilly at first).

The water offered free “fish pedicures”, which seemed to scare man of the children in the water.

The Charms of Vouliagmeni Town

We stayed walking distance from the lake at Somewhere Boutique Hotel Vouliagmeni. We loved this small (but pricey) hotel, with their incredibly comfortable bed and perfect sunset views. It’s walking distance from a bakery and several restaurants.

Other Activities and Attractions

In the future, I would love to come and spend more time here. There were nearby beaches, such as Astir Beach, that are perfect for sunbathing and swimming. As well a s the ancient city of Eleusis .
